ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Reading contemporary Korea
in historical perspective

An open scholarly community at Hanyang University, studying the forces shaping Korea today.

OUR PURPOSE

A place for careful research
and public conversation

The Hanyang Research Institute for Contemporary Korean Studies brings together scholars and students to examine the politics, society, culture, and international relations of Korea. We look at present-day questions in light of the historical experiences that continue to shape them.

The Institute supports collaborative research, develops opportunities for graduate students to share their work, and makes scholarly discussion accessible to wider audiences. We also aim to connect Korean academia with the wider world by introducing research grounded in Korean-language debates to international readers through English-language reviews, commentary, and context.
